The 18 position mixed receptacle housing assembly is a sealed automotive female terminal housing from the AMP MCP connector system, AMP MCP Hybrids. It is designed for wire-to-board and wire-to-wire connection systems. The housing features a rectangular shape, hybrid connector type, and a centerline pitch of 3.5 mm [.138 in]. The connector is intended for cable mount (free hanging) installation with a 180° wire exit angle. The primary product color is black. The product is made of glass filled PBT material. This housing supports a nominal voltage architecture of 12 V, with voltage rating below 50V. The operating temperature range for the housing is from -40°C to +130°C. The degree of protection is IPX9K.
The sealed socket housing is used for device connections. It is a multi-part assembly consisting of an upper part housing and a lower part housing, whereas the lower part also encloses the first locking. The second locking is separately delivered and assembled after the female contacts are assembled. Other components are the radial sealing and the family sealing with the cover. The locking with the pin housing is done by a lever which is also a mating and unmating guide. The socket housing is delivered as a completely assembled part (without female contacts and the second locking separately), with the lever in end locked position. After the socket housing is assembled with contacts, the second locking is assembled and the lever is brought in the pre-locked position. Optionally a cover with a 90 degree cable outlet for the left or the right side can be mounted. In connection with a cable tie the cover also acts as a strain relief of the connecting cable. Field of application for the socket housing is automobile/motorbike range and damp room.
For the 18 position receptacle housing, applicable terminals include MCON-1.2 CB (0.35 - 0.75 mm², insulation diameter 1.1 - 1.9 mm) and 2.8mm Sensor Flat Contact (SWS) (1.5 - 2.5 mm², insulation diameter 2.2 - 3.0 mm). The housing uses a family seal and radial seal to achieve watertightness.
Regarding insertion and retention forces of the contacts, the following values apply: primary interlock pull-out strength is min. 40N for MCON-1.2 and min. 60N for 2.8mm SFC; secondary interlock pull-out strength is min. 60N for MCON-1.2 and min. 100N for 2.8mm SFC. For contacts with a cable cross-section < 0.75 mm², the minimum retention force of the primary catch mechanism must attain at least the pull-out strength out of the cable crimp according to DIN IEC 352 Part 2.
Dynamic stress testing includes sinusoidal oscillation from 50Hz to 500Hz with acceleration of 20.0g, 3x20h, superimposed with temperature change from 25°C to +100°C, as well as bumping with 30g, 6ms half-wave sinusoidal, 1000 shocks per axis and direction. During oscillation, contact resistance shall not exceed the following limits compared to initial value: tin surface 3.5x, silver surface 3.0x, gold surface 2.0x. No mechanical damage shall occur. Permissible current interruption is < 200 ns, with interruption defined when contact resistance exceeds 150Ω.
Watertightness requirements are verified by a series of tests. Temperature shock is performed for 144 cycles from -40°C to +130°C, each for 15min with change-over time max. 10s. Immersion at low air pressure is done at 60 kPa for 30min. Water bath test consists of 5 cycles, each cycle with immersion in hot water at 65±5°C and cold water at 0±3°C, duration 1 hour per temperature level. Thermal shock test uses 10 cycles: air temperature 120°C for 15min, then water temperature 0°C for 2min. Salt spray test is performed for 6 cycles, each cycle consisting of 8h spraying and 16h break. Enclosure rating / steam jet test is performed similar to IPX9K: steam jet at 80 bar, 80°C, distance 100-150mm, test duration 30 seconds per side at angles 0°, 30°, 60°, 90°, repeated three times. Requirement: no medium shall penetrate into the connector, insulation resistance shall be > 100 MΩ, and the functioning of latching and releasing elements must remain fully maintained.
The socket housing is serviceable. Packaging method is box with packaging quantity of 320.
