The 23POS AMPSEAL automotive plug connector (TE internal part number 770680-1) is a wire-to-board sealed plug assembly. It is part of the AMPSEAL automotive plug connector and header assembly family. The plug accepts multiple socket contacts. All plugs and headers are color coded as a positive mating feature. This product is designed for power applications with a nominal voltage architecture of 250 V.

The contact accepts wire ranging in size from 20 to 16 AWG (1.5 mm²). Wire insulation diameter shall be minimum 1.7 mm and maximum 2.7 mm. For reduced wire size, the contact accepts 24 to 20 AWG with insulation diameter minimum 1.4 mm and maximum 1.8 mm.
Crimp inspection requirements:
Standard wire size: Crimp height 1.17±0.05 mm (for 0.5 mm²), 1.27±0.05 mm (for 0.8 mm²), 1.28±0.05 mm (for 1.0 mm² FLRY), 1.40±0.05 mm (for 1.5 mm²). Crimp width nominal 2.03 mm (for 0.5-1.0 mm²), 2.54 mm (for 1.5 mm²).
Reduced wire size: Crimp height 0.99±0.03 mm (for 20 AWG), 0.94±0.03 mm (for 22 AWG), 0.93±0.03 mm (for 22 AWG), 0.91±0.03 mm (for 24 AWG).
Strip length: 5.1±0.4 mm for standard wire, 4.3±0.4 mm for reduced wire, 4.0±0.4 mm for 24 AWG.
Before starting assembly, the wedge lock must be in the open (as-shipped) position. To insert a contact, push it straight into the appropriate circuit cavity until the retention fingers engage the contact. Pull back on the contact wire with 4.45 or 8.9 N to ensure retention. After all contacts are inserted, close the wedge lock to its locked position by squeezing locking latches inward. Slide the wedge lock into the housing until flush.
To remove a contact, insert a 4.8 mm wide screwdriver blade between the mating seal and a red wedge lock tab, pry open the wedge lock to open position, then rotate the wire back and forth while gently pulling until the contact is removed. The wedge lock should never be removed from the housing.
All circuits are sealed by a diaphragm in the rubber wire seal. Unused circuit cavities remain sealed unless accidentally perforated. For standard wire size, seal plug 770678-1 is used; for reduced wire size, seal plug 776364-1 is used.
An optional CPA can be used to prevent accidental disengagement. Before mating connector halves, assemble the CPA into the plug with a rotating motion. The CPA is in pre-staged position when both side latches engage the overstress feature. After mating, fully engage the CPA by applying downward force and sliding forward. An audible click indicates full engagement.
A backshell assembly can be used for cable management and strain relief. Assemble one half around the cable exit side, then mount the second half until locking latches and engagement studs fully mate. A wire tie on the cable exit end is recommended.
The header assembly is compatible with standard wave soldering processes using tin solder. Do not leave headers exposed to solder flow longer than normal soldering cycle. Suggested PC board thickness is 1.57 mm.
Panel mounting cutout requirements: For 23-position, dimensions A=47.4 mm, B=50.4 mm, C=44.5-44.0 mm. Panel thickness shall be 2-5 mm. The header is fastened using four self-tapping screws (e.g., DELTA-PT, 2.50 mm diameter). Screw length depends on panel thickness. Torque screws to 0.6-0.8 N·m using cross pattern, with initial torque 0.3-0.4 N·m to evenly distribute force.

Tooling includes hand crimping tool 58440-1, PRO-CRIMPER III Hand Tool Assembly 58529-1 with Die Assembly 58529-2, and Heavy Duty Miniature Quick-Change Applicators. Refer to Instruction Sheet 408-3229 for contact insertion and extraction.
The 770680-1 is a 23-position, 3-row, 180°, sealed wire-to-board plug connector for power applications with 250 V working voltage, 17 A maximum current per contact, 4 mm pitch, 1.3 mm mating pin diameter, IP67 and IP69K rating, operating temperature -40°C to 125°C. It meets RoHS and ELV, contains specific cyclosiloxanes as REACH SVHC, is not low halogen, and is not suitable for soldering processes. Compatible with 20-16 AWG and 24-20 AWG wires, with detailed crimping specifications provided.
